1,134 candidates didn't submit election expenses, EC issues notices

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana state election commission has decided to take action against 1,134 candidates who had recently contested municipalities' polls in the state and have failed to submit election expenditure. Initially, the commission has issued notice to the candidates from Faridabad, Panchkula, Ambala and Panipat districts. Stating this, state election commissioner Dalip Singh said

that as per the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, every contesting candidate for the election of municipal corporation was required to maintain day to day election expenses and submit the same to the deputy commissioner or the authorized officer within 30 days from the date of declaration of election results failing which the election commission is empowered to disqualify him/her for a period of three years from the date of order.Singh further stated that the general election of municipal corporation, Faridabad was held in the year 2010 and of the municipal corporation, Ambala, Panchkula and Panipat in the year 2013. As reported by the concerned deputy commissioners, 239 candidates from Faridabad 49 candidates of Ambala, 27 candidates of Panchkula and 95 candidates of municipal corporation Panipat failed to submit their expenditure statements.

The commission had issued show-cause notices to such candidates giving further opportunity to them to submit their written reply, if any, to the commission within 15 days. Thereafter, it would be presumed that they have nothing to say in the matter. However, these candidates have neither submitted their expenditure statement nor responded to the notice so far, he added.
