Flood situation deteriorates in several states; Over 17 lakh affected in Assam, Chief Minister Sarbhanand Sonowal directs Ministers to visit affected areas; Forecast of heavy rain in Uttarakhand in the next 48 hours; UP, Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir also reeling after the impact of floods. Heavy rains and rising water levels have created flood like situation in many states. Worst hit are JK, Assam, Uttarakhand, UP, Bihar, while
flood fury grips thesere as local and central authorities are making all out effforts to carry out rescue and relief work. In Assam as over 21 districts reeled under flood waters. More than 16 lakh people in 21 districts have been affected All important rivers, including Brahmaputra, were flowing over the danger level across the state. More than 1 lakh are taking shelter in relief camps. Roads and buildings have suffered damage in many areas. CM Sarbananda Sonowal conducted surveys and directed his colleagues to reach out with all possible help. Elsewhere, In Haryana, rising water levels of the Yamuna in Yamunanagar caused 8 people to be stranded. They had to be rescued by a chopper. In JK, heavy rains in Udhampur and Rajouri have again led to a flood like situation affecting normal life Meanwhile in UP, many rivers are in spate with water levels way over the danger level. Sitapur district is one of the worst affected with public anger against the administration's negligence steadily rising. In Uttarakhand incessant rains have caused most rivers to swell dangerously. Nearly 58 people have lost their lives so far. The state govt has taken several precautions like directing river bank dwellers to relocate to safer areas. The flood situation in Bihar is grim with water flowing in from the Terai region of Nepal flooding the plains of the state. In Himachal Pradesh, six workers of a company were also trapped near Manali following a landslide and were rescued with the help of the local administration. Authorities are alert after the Met Dept warned of more rains in the Himalayan state.
