Political deadlock in Spain

In Spain, the conservative People's Party of acting Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has won most seats in the parliamentary election. The party is however short of a majority. Spain's other main party, the Socialist PSOE is in second place. The left-wing Unidos Podemos coalition predicted to take over the socialist party came third and centre-right Ciudadanos was the fourth. The vote has failed to break the
political deadlock for six months since the inconclusive poll of December last year. Rajoy has said he had a right to govern. Official results give the PP 137 seats in the 350-seat parliament and the Socialists 85. Podemos have won 71 and Ciudadanos 32. Podemos leader Pablo Iglesias said his party has suffered an unsatisfactory result.
